CSI - Behind the Scenes

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (also known as CSI: Las Vegas) is an American crime drama television series, which premiered on CBS on October 6, 2000. The show was created by Anthony E. Zuiker and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. It is filmed primarily at Universal Studios in Universal City, California.

The series follows Las Vegas criminalists as they use physical evidence to solve grisly murders in this unusually graphic drama, which has inspired a host of other cop-show "procedurals". An immediate ratings smash for CBS, the series mixes deduction, gritty subject matter and popular characters. The network quickly capitalized on its hit with spin-offs CSI: Miami and CSI: NY.

Wallwisher - an easy Webtool

This year I've completed an intensive course online entitled "Formação em Linha: das ferramentas à sua utilização com alunos de Inglês". One of the collaborative tasks I had to undertake was to build a Wallwisher. But, what on hell's name is a Wallwisher?

http://www.wallwisher.com/

What is wallwisher?
Wallwisher is an Internet application that allows people to express their thoughts on a common topic easily.

What is a wall?
A wall is basically the 'web page' where people actually post messages.

What can I do with Wallwisher?
You can use wallwisher for:

■Personal note taking

■To-do lists

■Party Invitations

■Feedback Collection

■Wishing people on occasions, like birthdays, anniversaries

■Anything that might need input from a lot of people, eg. a Mac Vs PC wall (that'll be a war, not a wall actually).

Anyway, I've decided to put the idea into practice with my own pupils. Here is the result with two walls built by two different classes of the nineth grade from Escola Secundária Fernando Namora. They are still in progress until 31th May, but I couldn't resist...

My shopping habits

I like shopping very much.
I usually buy books, computer games, shoes and clothes.

I go shopping with my mother and sisters and sometimes with my friends.

I spend one afternoon shopping.

I like wearing jeans, T-Shirts and trainers. I don’t like wearing dresses or necklaces.

Shopping is very interesting for me. It is very funny and at the same time is a good therapy when we are depressed. People should buy what they need and not be compulsive buyers.

I like shopping very much.
Usually I buy jeans, T-shirts, comfortable bras and a lot of books and DVD’S.

I go shopping with my aunt or my mother but sometimes I go with my boyfriend or my best friend. I like buying clothes and books because it is a great therapy against stress.

I hate buying skirts, tights or dresses because I don’t like my legs very much.

I think my clothes define my personality.

Dia da Espiga - Wheat Ear Day

Wheat Ear Day

Wheat Ear Day is celebrated on a Thursday devoted to Jesus Rise to Heaven and hasn’t got a fixed date. This year, this popular tradition takes place on 13th May. As we have the Holy Pope in Portugal and the school is closed, the teachers and pupils of the 7th grade, class A of  Escola Secundária Fernando Namora decided to celebrate it a day earlier.
According to tradition, people should go to the fields and pick up wheat ears. This popular tradition comes from very ancient times and it is related to the rites of spring and fertility.

In fact, people don’t collect only wheat ears but a whole bunch of flowers, all with a symbolic meaning. Learn about it:

wheat ear- symbol of fertility and bread;

white daisies – silver;

yellow daisies- gold;

olive tree branch – olive oil and peace;

poppy flower – love and life;

rosemary – health and strength;

vine – wine and joy

A century of the Portuguese Republic

A small play, staged by teachers and pupils of TAP-Curso Técnico de Apoio Psicossocial- was presented at the Town Hall of Condeixa-a-Nova, in memory of the First Century of the Portuguese Republic. It took place on 5th May. Two members of our school theatre group also presented an impersonification of two earlier Presidents of the Republic and our Course of Electricity made an electrified lamp as a stage promp.

Escola Secundária Fernando Namora deserves once more congratulations!!!

APPI Conference 2010

The APPI Conference 2010 took place in Guimarães, at the Centro Cultural de Vila Flor, on 30th April, 1st and 2nd May. It was its 24th Conference and was entitled Highlighting key skills in language learning.
I had the privilege of coming into contact with such well-known people as David Crystal, Rod Bolitho, Claudia Ferradas, Barry Lynam, Brock Brady and Adam Kershaw from the international scene and Teresa Almeida D'Eça, José Moura Carvalho, Eduarda Nunes, Veríssimo Toste from the national panorama. All of them great speakers and "doers".
Thanks APPI for such a lovely conference.
